Teen crashes car during 'Bird Box' challenge

Several people have injured themselves recently while trying to perform common tasks with their eyes covered.
The challenge has become something of a viral phenomenon on social media over the last few weeks following the success of the Netflix hit movie 'Bird Box' starring Sandra Bullock.

In the film, the characters are forced to wear a blindfold at all times when outside, even when driving.

Efforts by fans to do the same thing in real life however have resulted in some rather predictable mishaps ranging from falling over objects to smashing in to walls.

Photographs from one such incident were posted up on Twitter yesterday by the Layton Police Department in Utah after a teenager had tried to drive her car while covering her eyes.
"Bird Box Challenge while driving... predictable result," the department wrote.

So many people have ended up injuring themselves while attempting the challenge in fact that even Netflix has posted up a notice to warn its viewers not to attempt it.

"Can't believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE," the company wrote. "We don't know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes."

Saw that in the news. Thought - seriously??? People actually do this??? It beggars belief! Their cars should be taken away and so should their driving licence. Anyone with brains like that should not be allowed to drive on the roads. If they want to walk about blindfolded and they smack into a lampost, fine, as long as in England they are refused free hospital treatment. Make them pay for their stupidity.

I want to call it 'Bird brain' challenge, but that's disrespectful to birds. How about 'pea brain' ?

And we're done in one. Somebody get the lights, and I'll start stacking chairs.

As teens we would all drive 120ish in the wrong lane racing and just hoped something out there protected us around the turns. No one was ever hurt. Please do not try my stupid acts at home. These stunts were performed by non professionals

Kinda related news: "Netflix's post-apocalyptic survival film Bird Box is drawing criticism for using footage of a real fiery train disaster in Canada, though the streaming giant says it has no plans to remove it. The footage concerns a 2013 tragedy in the Quebec town of Lac-Megantic when an unattended train carrying crude oil rolled down an incline, came off the tracks and exploded into a massive ball of fire, killing 47 people. Netflix licensed the footage of the disaster from the stock image vendor Pond 5 and used it in Bird Box in an early TV news montage to set up its horrific premise." F... [More]

I believe humans and teenagers have been doing foolish things for centuries, we just have better means of documenting and broadcasting it.
