Scientists 'reverse biological age of humans'

A new study has reportedly succeeded in reversing the aging process in a test group of nine individuals.
The experiment, which involved giving participants a cocktail of growth hormone and diabetes drugs, had been designed to help scientists better understand the aging of the body's epigenetic clock.

Much to the researchers' surprise however, the drug cocktail - which had been taken over the course of a year - had somehow reversed the participants' biological age by 2.5 years during that time.

"I'd expected to see slowing down of the clock, but not a reversal," said Steve Horvath from the University of California, Los Angeles. "That felt kind of futuristic."
Further experiments are now planned to reproduce the findings in a larger group of participants.

If the results can be confirmed, it could revolutionize how we treat age-related diseases.

The research could also lead to treatments capable of reversing aging in healthy individuals.

Acromegaly. (The abnormal growth that you mentioned.) Former wrestler Big John Studd comes to mind reading your reply. According to a friend and fellow wrestler, his doctors say the abuse of GH reshaped his skeleton and may have been responsible for the tumors that eventually led to his death.

So a large intake of stem cells could reduce aging?

That reminds me of a South Park episode where people were eating fetuses to become immortal.

Well it's fine there's no such thing as immortal anyways. Even if you were, the sun would burn out and expand. even if you moved to another solar system. unless you can move into another galaxy, there's another one hurtling into this one.

You'd be dead.  Insulin is required for glucose to be used as energy by cells.  So how are these mice living without energy?

You dont need to consume glucose if you have fat and protein in your diet. Your liver produces a small amount from them for your brain.

Carbohydrates and excess protein is converted into glucose.

If you over eat protein some of the amino acids get turned into glucose. Thats not the mechanism though which your liver uses to create a small amount of glucose for the brain during sugar and carb starvation. Sugar and carb starvation would kill a person because the brain cannot run of ketones. But thankfully the liver takes them both during starvation and frees up some glucose for the brain.

In countries where the government pay for everyone's health care, it will save a lot of money to not only slack off a lot of old people from the hospitals, but gain new tax payers as well to pay for the ones who still need care.
