UM-Bot Posted July 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2007 Deep in the Congolese jungle is a band of apes that, according to local legend, kill lions, catch fish and even howl at the moon. Local hunters speak of massive creatures that seem to be some sort of hybrid between a chimp and a gorilla. Their location at the centre of one of the bloodiest conflicts on the planet, the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has meant that the mystery apes have been little studied by western scientists. Blizno Posted September 6, 2007 #11 Share Posted September 6, 2007 I've seen video of chimps hunting monkeys. They use teamwork and strategy to overcome the monkeys' greater agility and speed. It's impressive. I could definitely see a group of these new-found chimps hunting and killing a leopard. Leopards tire quickly and their usual strategy to be safe - climb a tree - would be useless against a hunting party of chimps. Tracking a fleeing leopard until it's exhausted and climbs a tree in panic would put it right where the chimps want it. They could swarm up the tree and either pull the leopard off the tree to fall to its death (moving very fast to stay away from the claws) or else take turns swinging in and pounding it with their fists until it can't fight back any more.
