"Nick Redfern: The Mammoth, a mighty creature that roamed the lonely wilds of North America, the expanses of Western Europe, and the harsh lands of northern Russia during the Pleistocene era, and which is generally accepted as having become extinct somewhere around the end of the last Ice Age."

They could still be around. With food so scarce in the cold forrests, they may be omnivorous. They may not be reported simply because people can't outrun a foraging/hunting herd of elephants in the snow. Could be a very nasty business, ya know.

It sure did TAKE a moment for this information to get to the main point. So, some say that they've SEEN woolly elephants? Do none live so far north whom own cameras? I won't deny them, but I'd LOVE to see some photos.

I do believe it's possible for Bigfoot to be roaming around in the deep recesses of remote forestland but to miss an animal the size of a Mammoth? Then again, many people have gone on Safari and said that if elephants don't want to be found, you won't find them and that's pretty open land. However, I'm very skeptical about a living Mammoth populous.

However, I'm very skeptical about a living Mammoth populous. Think about the HUGE vastness of Siberia, and the conditions. I bet it's one of the few places left on the earth that have hundreds of square miles still untouched. I think a few mammoths could keep themselves hidden up there. Not saying it's true,... [More]

Unless they adapted considerably to changing climate and food supply, the place you might most expect to find woolly mammoths today would be the Mongolian Steppe as that region is closest to the mammoth steppe of the ice ages. Siberia and Canada are really too wet, although the survival of mammoths on Wrangel Island until around 4,000 years ago shows they can and did adapt in places. But I'd be looking where it's cold and dry. Anyone hear of any reports of hairy elephants in the Gobi Desert?

I think a few mammoths could keep themselves hidden up there. People have talked about this here and there for ages. I've always thought its probably one of the best Cryptids as far as location. I mean you really are looking at areas we just typically don't go wandering into. But I've always thought the big problem with this one is your talking about a very large herd (the females anyway) animal. So in this case your not only looki... [More]

Nick Redfern: The Mammoth, a mighty creature that roamed the lonely wilds of North America, the expanses of Western Europe, and the harsh lands of northern Russia during the Pleistocene era, and which is generally accepted as having become extinct somewhere around the end of the last Ice Age. Today, all we have left of this huge, majestic creature are a few well-preserved carcasses found embedded in icy tombs, and the various bone and tusk fragments that still continue to surface from time to time. Could there, however, still possibly be more maybe, much more - just waiting to be uncovered? ... [More]

I doubt it, the temperature would be too warm for them, and even if there was some left, there probably wouldn't be many.

But there are nomad tribes still living close to those areas, an they get visited by medical teams a few times a year as well as mammoth bone hunters etc etc, discovery channel, surley they would have storys and yet they never mention it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/tribe/tribes/nenets/index.shtml
