A Southern Baptist leader is calling for Christians to abandon yoga as it isn't a "Christian pathway to God".
Albert Mohler's comments have caused significant controversy with yoga enthusiasts criticising the call to abandon the practice. "I'm really surprised by the depth of the commitment to yoga found on the part of many who identify as Christians," he said.
A Southern Baptist leader who is calling for Christians to avoid yoga and its spiritual attachments is getting plenty of pushback from enthusiasts who defend the ancient practice.

Personally, I think the guy should forget yoga and start praying for God to give him some common sense. He reminds me of Phil Phillips, author of "Turmoil of the Toybox," who wrote that Satan is influencing kids through their toys. He claimed that the unicorns of "My Little Pony" are symbolic of the Antichrist. I knew there was something suspicious about those ponies. Sparkles and glitter to that extreme can only mean one thing. . .evil. As for IamsSon, I understand that from your point of how it would be wrong for you to do these things. I appreciate the fact that you truly believe in your re... [More]

As for IamsSon, .... Great questions.First off, I want to explain that the title "Christian" has become so broad that what one means by it needs to be explained. There are people who call themselves Christian because they attend a Catholic or Protestant church once or twice a year, some attend every Sunday and even participate in ministries, but when I refer to myself as a Christian, I mean that I have acknowledged that I severed the eternal-life-giving link to God through my self-centered actions. I also acknowledge that I can do nothing to repair this link but that God, as the ultimate act o... [More]

Iamsson, First I want to express my appreciation that you recognize Catholics as Christians. Many "Christians" oppose that inclusion but I agree with you that they share the same basic intent to follow a spiritual path toward God. I am admittedly a Biblical critic and am not a Christian, but I respect fairness and objectivity and for that I am offering my appreciation for your viewpoints. Thank you, sir. This means a lot.

He claimed that the unicorns of "My Little Pony" are symbolic of the Antichrist. If that is the case, then god should direct this man to a psychiatrist for he clearly needs help... Reading your post, it was news to me, I had no idea that there were mad people out there that actually thought simple things like a childs toy was linked to satan... that is just plain ab... [More]

Those sorts of people are always going around saying "this isn't holy' and 'thats the work of the devil'. They make me laugh. But the sad thing is, half the Christians listening to him start beleiving it! No offense but, when will they start thinking for themselves?

To abandon yoga is the most ridiculous thing to Ever say. We are not raised in our current society to take time in our lives to calm our mind, meditate, and connect to All That Is. The truth is everyone all around the world has their own truth of what 'God' is. Thus, names are irrelevant to 'Creation'- what we are all a part of, whether you like it or not- and it goes beyond words. Anyone and everyone may call it whatever they like. God is Oneness- or Consciousness, Awareness, Light, Spirit, Soul, Energy, Frequency, Yahweh, Creator, Being, Isness, All That Is, or Love. Truth is we are all of t... [More]

A Southern Baptist leader who is calling for Christians to avoid yoga and its spiritual attachments is getting plenty of pushback from enthusiasts who defend the ancient practice. Southern Baptist Seminary President Albert Mohler says the stretching and meditative discipline derived from Eastern religions is not a Christian pathway to God. Mohler said he objects to "the idea that the body is a vehicle for reaching consciousness with the divine." "That's just not Christianity," Mohler told The Associated Press. Mohler said feedback has come through e-mail and comments on blogs and other website... [More]
