A once-fertile land mass now swallowed by the Persian Gulf could have supported early humans.
The flood plain would have been the size of the United Kingdom and may have been home to many of the earliest humans outside of Africa between 75,000 and 100,000 years ago.
At its peak, the floodplain now below the Gulf would have been about the size of Great Britain, and then shrank as water began to flood the area. Then, about 8,000 years ago, the land would have been swallowed up by the Indian Ocean, the review scientist said.

Hello Flashbangwollap and Searcher, Thank you both for your response, those are pretty much the dimensions that I had envisioned when I asked. It does make sense that it would be more of a flat bottomed vessel,as the weight distribution would advantageous.I had picturered something similar to the flat-bottom garbage scows that I've seen on tv,minus the garbage. jmccr8 You may find this interesting http://www.mineralsz...ls/asphalt.html It may be that tar or pitch has a better resistance to the salinity of water in the dead sea. On the docks we used it all the time to slow the rusting process. Ho... [More]

Flashbangwollap, I have done hot tar roofing,as well as having built 20,000ltr insulated hot product tanks for the dept of highways, and have done service work on older units that they had.It is a dirty and at times risky product to work with as if it gets to hot and gets enough oxygen it will flame up quite rapidly. If you get the hot product on your skin it can be quite painful as it does blister the skin, one has to soak the affected area in oil to remove it,nasty business. Thanks for the link I didn't realize that it was use for artwork and fastening arrowheads to shafts. We use a lot of salt ... [More]

Isn't it lovely. Humans eventually de-evolved. How are you going to lose the most essential adaptations? Body hair protects us from the sun. From what I was taught in school, evolution is an advancement of a species. So how, do we lose two chromosomes and most of what protects us from the sun, (I.E Caucasian skin)?? Strange Darwinistic world we live in. I think we lost the true, Homo Sapien knowledge somewhere during our history. It sucks trying to research our past, without the essential missing links. Genetic Engineering anyone? There is no such thing as de-evolution. Species are not like Po... [More]

lol @ Pokemon! I was being a bit sarcastic with that posting. I realize we are an advanced species, in most circumstances.

I sometimes wonder that why are present day monkeys or apes or chimps are not evolving to humans....... Maybe it depends on their mood. LoL It also depends how patient you are... Stay around for 5 million of years, and then tell us what you saw them evolve into. ...sigh...

hi Abramelin and twinkle Arora, Being human is not the end result or pinnacle of evolution? Just a step along one path? As Drj312 said earlier " present day primates such as apes and chimps evolved from a common ancestor they shared with us millions of years ago. our evolutionary trees diverged millions of years ago. " The skeletons of air breathing sea mammals reveal that they most likely evolved from creatures that walked on land. We could eventually change into amphibians for all we know. Stay around for 5 million years and see what WE are like? .. Wait 500 million years for a bigger differ... [More]

[in recent years, archaeologists have turned up evidence of a wave of human settlements along the shores of the Gulf dating to about 7,500 years ago. “Where before there had been but a handful of scattered hunting camps, suddenly, over 60 new archaeological sites appear virtually overnight,” Rose said. “These settlements boast well-built, permanent stone houses, long-distance trade networks, elaborately decorated pottery, domesticated animals, and even evidence for one of the oldest boats in the world.” ... That is far earlier than the estimates generated by several recent migration mo... [More]

12 to 10,000 years ago the world's oceans were 100 metres (300 feet) lower than they are now. The icecaps melted back to their present state due to either an Earth axis shift or meteor shower - or both. The seas rose and drowned previous civilsation, which were mostly in the the Fertile Crescent, ie the Mediterranean valley (now Sea) and the Persian Gulf areas. Other areas - Atlantis - were also affected. This equates to the Biblical Great Flood. These seas are now giving up a lot of advanced artifacts which show 'someone' lived there when it was dry land.
