SetiQuest Explorer is currently in a private beta stage and will be available on the iPhone this summer.
"We want to tap into the brain power of the world," says SETI director Jill Tarter. While the long-running SETI@Home project uses the spare computing power on people's computers to help process data the new application is designed to enable amateur astronomers to help with tasks that are not easy to accomplish with computers such as visual image recognition.
The Seti@Home project run by the University of California at Berkeley is harnessing unused computer processing power to help crunch the data coming from outer space.

My computer is running Seti@home right now so I'm in on the hunt for extraterrestials pretty much all the time.

This is good news! Our inter-connected world has SO much potential and it is much more powerful than any supercomputer ever created.

Sweet! I'm all for this tactic. However, it started back when I was in HS and still nothing to show for it.

A virtual supercomputer composed of large numbers of Internet-connected computers, launched in May 1999. A scientific area whose goal is to detect intelligent life outside Earth. Everyone should join SETI@home.

When i saw this headline, I was quite excited. I thought SETI had released an alien-hunting android, kind of like Robocop, to hunt down the Extraterrestrials. Then I realised that it was just a gadget for a mobile phone. Oh well.
