Raelians insist they are not 'nuts'

news icon rSubmitted by Axle13: Nashville may not be fertile ground for belief in aliens. Only five people showed up for yesterday's public lecture by three representatives of the Raelian Movement, the atheistic group that believes life on Earth was cloned by a people from another solar system.

But before you sneer, the meeting yesterday was well-reasoned and sincere with a message of love, nonviolence and, above all, faith in science.''We are not nuts.

Raelians insist they are not 'nuts'

Ya...ummm...why don't you just keep insisting that while you wait for the mothership to come down and pick you up...meanwhile make claims that you are cloning human being successfully... huh.gif

Raelians are the certified poster children for the concept of nuts...

I can't possibly roll my eyes hard enough to express how I really feel here so here is this one: rolleyes.gif

Please use you imagination to make the eye rolling much more pronounced and effected. If you could make an audible "ughhhhhh" sound at the same time it would probably be even more effective an expression of my opinion.

That is one of the funniest things I have heard in a long time.

Try a straw... it's a bit easier than taking the keyboard apart and hoping it'll work again when you put it back together. lol

The Raelians aren't nuts... they're weird... nuts are healthy and tasty. tongue.gif

There are few belief systems I will openly criticize. Die-hard evolutionists and Heaven's Gate-style screwballs.

This seems to have a connection to Blood Angel's Column...ph34r.gif

Execpt this movement believes that Aliens cloned us, from predecessor Human Race.

On the reverse side, BA's column fortells the coming of a race, similar to ours "The Great White Brotherhood"...or the Arayan Species as I call them....Well they whatever it is something is coming here whether we like it or not.

Expect the unexpected...and accept the impossible

I have a firm belief in the supernatural- though I look at each case with a bit of scepticsm.

However, I find it hard to believe the claims of the Raelians. If they've cloned humans successfuly, they should be putting them to use supporting their cause. I find it difficult to believe that ET's would come to Earth just to talk one man into starting a religion worshipping them. I also find it hard to believe that ET's would also tell him, we're going to come back someday and pick you and all your followers up in our ship and take you to a better place. It's a cult, and all cults tend to end badly- Waco, Jonestown, Heaven's Gate...

The human capability to believe such silliness amazes and astounds me to no end. Will people only come to see them as whacked when they pull out the "special Kool-aid"? Come on, how can ANYBODY of sound mind be so needy that they require such an unlikely source of redemption and salvation?!? I would rather have people worshipping a human that gave his life so that others can be saved than aliens. Give me a break! disgust.gif

I think they might be a little eccentric but not mad.

How can we say people who believe we were cloned by aliens are mad - but beleiving the world was created by an omnipotent being that hasn't notably spoke to anyone for 2000 years is absolutely fine.

I can't prove nor disprove Raelian or Christian belief, so I wont pass judgement on either.

I don't believe the world was created by an omnipotent being, but worshipping a person that espoused kindness, tolerance, and compassion (meaning Jesus) in my opinion a more believable reason for faith then what the Raelians are talking about. It helps that many of the beliefs center around historical and historically possible events. In addition, the motivation behind Christ is more understandable, and admirable then the Raelians.

The Raelians claimed to have successfully cloned humans- I say PROVE IT! Show us the clones (three physically identical children would be sufficient proof to me)! What type of scriptures do the Raelians have detailing their alien benefactors? What was the motivation of these ET's- why would they care about saving us unless we were an endagered species. And if they truly wanted to save us, why save only those that belong to the Raelians- why not come out and simply reveal themselves to the masses, and say "We are here to help- please accept our hand in friendship"? And what purpose did the aliens have for cloning us to begin with?

My sister belonged to a cult once, and that's all this is. Sure, they may be using "science" to give their faith a little (though not much if you're of a logical mind) more credibility- but it's still a cult.

If I seem a little harsh in my comments about this, it's because I hate seeing people's needs being used to feed the egos of an elite group of people.

Raelians are no more nuts than christians. Take that as you will.

They're no more nuts than believers in ghosts, god, aliens, anything really.

Critising them is like a Christian saying that the Jewish religion is obviously dumb and fake.

I believe in ghosts, and the possible existance of ET's- but once again, I take it case by case- and try to find natural reproducible causes for the phenomena before declaring something as authentic in my mind. Does this make me nuts?

I don't beleive that the Christian, Judaist, Hindu, Buddhist, Zen faiths are stupid- just that they don't answer many of the questions in my mind as fully as they could be answered. I repsect them because they bring comfort to people... and because they are grounded in simple concepts- kindness to each other, lead a good life, life is worth living, etc. I may not agree with HOW they put these concepts across, or the ceremonies they perform- but I respect the essence behind the faith.

I see very little of that in the Raelian cult. I see elitism ("Only Raelians will be taken in the mothership"), and unsubstaniated claims of scientific import (their claims of successful human cloning). The fact that they are using these to lure people into their religion is something I view with a touch of contempt. To me, it makes a mockery of the purpose of religion, credibility of science, and makes those that believe in ET's look like idiots to society.

I'm looking at the Raelians with an eye of logic- and I find it lacking.

Given the history of how myths and legends evolve, I can understand how the belief in God came about. Myths and legends grew so as to explain things in nature. God to non-believers (myself included) is one such form. To me, it's more logical to believe in God than to believe in ET's seeding Earth with clones, and worshipping them for it. That, in my opinion, doesn't make Christians, etc nuts- but rather individuals that are continuing in that evolutinary path.

Many Christians aren't so die-hard as to say, "Science is a fraud!". Many, when new discoveries are made, rather than rejecting it, simply learn to integrate it into their beliefs about God's grandeur and infinte mystery.

Ohh Stewey I will miss your words of wisdom. It seems as though you often speak as I would like to.

P.S. Maybe the Raelians' could be converted to our church wink2.gif

Hehehe. I think it would take some heavy medication and de-programing to get them to convert.

I only speak as I see fit. I try to be understanding about things- but I have my limits... and listening to the Raelians pushes that limit. disgust.gif

Well, if they are happy believing in aliens and cloning, I say all the luck to them, as long as you don't harm anyone or get involved with me, I say believe whatever you want if it makes you happy.
