Drought solution - tow an iceberg ?

A novel idea is being reconsidered to aid drought-hit areas - tow an iceberg from the North Atlantic.
A team of engineers has been examining the possibility of using icebergs as a way to help provide water to drought-hit countries. They determined that towing an iceberg to the Canary Islands from Newfoundland would take five months and cost $10 million.
Way back in the 70’s Georges Mougin, then an engineering graduate, had a big idea. He suggested that icebergs floating around in the North Atlantic could be tethered and dragged south to places that were experiencing a severe drought, such as the Sahel of West Africa.

Only religious nuts believe that the earth can support 14 billion people. So they are against birth control and abortion. We now have 7 billion and are running out of food, air and drinking water. Africa has over one billion and millios are starving. Imagain when they reacy two or three billion and A BILLION ARE STARVING. In the US the Tea Party baggers who now control many state houses are passing bills banning abortion. Another bunch of religious nuts who think that there is plenty of room left in America for another 100 million in spite of the fact we are also running out air and drinking w... [More]

Im not religious at all, but i bet you're one of those people who think there too much CO2 in the air (hence we have no air) and yet you want to save the trees (so they can release their stored CO2 back into the atmosphere). I say, plant more paper/timber trees, cut them down and use them as a CO2 sink. Greenies want you to save trees so they can moan about CO2. Eeeeh....Why is saving trees a bad thing? Plants ARE the reason we have O2 to breath!!!! THEY are the one who break the Carbon in the CO2 molecule and even dumb religious people knows that. so what the HECK are you talking about are yo... Eeeeh....Why is saving trees a bad thing? Plants ARE the reason we have O2 to breath!!!! THEY are the one who break the Carbon in the CO2 molecule and even dumb religious people knows that. so what the HECK are you talking about are you sarcastic or just plain idiot? you maybe not religious, but your ignorance is equivalent the the Medieval Ages ? And by the way, more CO2 in the air mean LESS O2 to breath. Mainly because we release Carbon monozyde who take the O2 to form CO2. It's a pretty easy calculus. Except that if you know anything about science, when a tree dies it releases all the colle... [More]

Except that if you know anything about science, when a tree dies it releases all the collect CO2 by rotting, hence a tree only stores CO2 for a short time. If you cut down a tree and use it, plant another tree, you have effectively taken CO2 out of the atmosphere. Were you being sarcastic or are you just a plain idiot? You are missing one point; we have been releasing Carbon monoxide in our atmosphere, were it was suppose to be kept under the ground; PETROL! We have ADDED even more CO2 that the planet use millions of year to stock in the deepest place on earth. What do you think Petrol is? Whe... [More]

You are missing one point; we have been releasing Carbon monoxide in our atmosphere, were it was suppose to be kept under the ground; PETROL! We have ADDED even more CO2 that the planet use millions of year to stock in the deepest place on earth. What do you think Petrol is? When a tree dies most of it's CO2, while rotting, goes underground or continue to live, not in the air but in the bodies of the animals or insects that eat it, thus keeping the equilibrium between O2 and CO2! If trees are so bad, then tell me why CO2 level are up more than any time in the history of the planet? They tested... [More]

I agree that trees take in more CO2 then the give off. But if you cut them down and plant more, they don't give off any CO2 by rotting. So its a win/win, but you wont here the greenies tell you that. As for CO2 never being this high before, you are quite wrong. Here is a graph that shows CO2 levels over 20 time what they are today Don't take all your facts from those with vested interests, THEN you will learn who is the idiot Honestly i prefer to think by myself and to think with common sense, than to beleive anything whiteout thinking about it before. I see you are one of the people who think... [More]

well where do you take your charts ? honestly i prefer to think by myself and to think with common sense, than to beleive anything whiteout thinking about it before. I see you are one of the people who think that human action have no effect on our ecosystem and that we can continue to pollute since the established monetary system tells you to? I pity you, have no what so ever knowledge about true responsibility of our own race action. then why do i have charts that say and show THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE than what YOU say? as long as you don't give me SOURCES and give images, you hadn't prove anyth... I would suggest that is because you are using charts that go back 60 years, while i am using charts that go back 600 million years. It is quite obvious if your know how to read charts, which reflects my schooling (or your lack of). In case you haven't guessed (it appears you haven't) i am against pollution (who isn't), but you and i have different views on what pollution is. CO2 doesn't kill things. Radiation, mercury, petrol based products and plastics all polute/kill the natural environment. I have shown you graphs (which are not disputed, only hidden by global warming alarmists) which show ... [More]
