Nobody has been able to identify the strange animal left to a zoo in China by an anonymous man.

Its exact species has become a topic of hot discussion both at the zoo in Wenling, China and on internet forums. Some of the zookeepers believe the creature to be some type of monkey, while others have suggested it to be a bush baby or more recently - a spotted cuscus based on the appearance of its nose, eyes and tail.

"With a nose that looks more like a rodent's but long, pointy paws and white fur dappled with brown and orange, he is quite unique."

Besides, the picture used for this article on the front page, is on I'm normally a wee bit annoyed by posts about "why is this on unexplained mysteries!?" But I have to agree on this part. Kind of odd that the "mystery animal" post has a picture of a DIFFERENT animal of the same species, heh

But not long after the zoo was contacted by Danny Li, an animal enthusiast who lives in Hong Kong, who told them it was a spotted cuscus — a marsupial native to northern Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia's Maluku Islands. Wildlife experts who spoke to ninemsn confirmed the animal's identity. Dr Ashley Bunce from Queensland's Department of Environment and Resource Management pointed to the "distinctive facial features, fur colour and pattern" after looking at photos of the marsupial. Wenling Zoo's manager is now seeking advice on how best to care for the 25cm-long cuscus. [More]

Who could eat such an adorable animal. Doesn't look like there's much to it. Little critter.

there are numerous such creatures on earth that have not been identified. they look similar and yet different. a probable explaination can be evolution or cross-breeding.

It's called Gizmo and you can't feed it after midnight and should never get it wet...or it might turn into a Gremlin (not the car...the evil creature)
