As a species we have a tendancy to fear rare threats while ignoring the more obvious and dangerous ones.
Why is it that we tend to fear disasters such as earthquakes and tidal waves far more than ill-health due to a poor diet or lack of exercise ? Humans have an unusual tendancy to focus on the most unlikely threats while disregarding those that are right in front of our faces.
Humans have a perplexing
tendency to fear rare threats such as shark attacks while blithely
ignoring far greater risks like
unsafe sex and an unhealthy diet. Those illusions are not just
silly—they make the world a more dangerous place.
