Consisting of a concrete base covered in wire mesh, the object could have been deployed by the Germans during the war in an effort to disorient ships and submarines. If this turns out to be true then the find represents an important discovery in the field of historical warfare.
Divers have been investigating the site of the anomaly on the Baltic Sea floor since the beginning of June after it was picked up on scans by the Ocean Explorer research vessel team last year.
