Nothing gets the public to take note of emergancy planning procedures like a zombie apocalypse.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is following in the footsteps of the CDC by using the concept of a zombie invasion to raise public awareness and participation in emergency planning. Everything from evacuation routes to recommended supplies were covered in a special "zombie preparedness" webinar designed to improve public awareness of disaster procedures.
"A zombie invasion would be ... I haven't quite figured that one out yet," said response coordinator Robin Allbrandt. "But one thing that's exciting about the zombie thing is that it's getting the younger population engaged."
No one in emergency preparedness circles really believes the dead will rise and come looking for living people to devour -- that weird face-eating incident in Florida aside.
