Authorities in Sweden have been left confused after a seal pup was discovered in the middle of a forest.
Hunter Robert Sandefors had been out walking in the woods when he came upon the seal pup in an area that was more than 6km from the nearest body of water. "A somewhat confused person called and said he was out walking in the woods where he had found a seal pup. I thought he was joking at first," said police inspector Henrik Pederson. According to Sandefors, the seal had left tracks suggesting it had managed to traverse several miles on it's own.
"He must have gotten separated from his mother and gotten lost and gone in the wrong direction," he said. Luckily the seal didn't appear to be phased by its ordeal and was later released in the nearby Dalaelven river.
A seal pup was found in a forest in eastern Sweden on Sunday almost six kilometres (four miles) from the closest body of open water, raising questions as to how it got there, Swedish media reported.
