Only when it becomes completely unrefutible that they screwed up, does the Vatican does what's "good". And all that "good" is usually after doing centuries of bad things that they have no choice but to correct their misdeeds. Then they go through years of more bad practices before they're forced to correct them...

I honestly am this cynicle... and see this move as nothing more as a ploy to gain people back... since another inquasition would be "bad" for them to do... I doubt even these bishops truely believe in what they say anymore. Just anything to save face.

*rolls her eyes* It's not one man's though... it's centuries of different men. Sure now we'll see a bishop say "believe in science!" But down the road some... who knows what they'll do or say that'll completely counterdict themselves.

science & christianity...2 different methodologies striving for similar ends ~ advancement in consciousness.. it's interesting to note that both seek to influence the world, but in doing so - each bears weight of consequence.. christians may have been advocates for the crusades & witch burnings in the old days, but science created the atomic bomb.. who(m) among either one is purely innocent.. :innocent:

but i would like to include the following ~ even though the historic institution of christendom may be shadowy in agenda, it doesn't mean that all christians are suspect.. ;)

You cannot blame the church for their past actions, they were doing what they thought was correct. If you see a man on the street that says a comet will hit the world in 10 days, are you going to freak out ?, or are you going to ignore him ?. In this case, Galileo was a scientist that could not be ignored, he had to be put to death for his heresy.

Although this seems bad, because he in fact knew the truth, but what if he was in-correct ?. In this case, people would of looked down upon the church for accepting a lunatics opinion over what they have believed for the past few hundred years. In that case, it's a lose , lose situation. You see new religions all over the world, that sprout different idea's on how the world came to be, and the majority of people laugh, while this is no different.

For the amount of skeptics on this board that bash Christianity for this, it makes me wonder. If they are so skeptic, they would of thought the same in that age for someone to make such a claim. It's nothing more then a person saying he has proof aliens exist, and a group of skeptical people laughing at them. Except, in this case, the laws were different, and it was considered heresy against the church, and he was put to death, with a crowd of thousands that cheered to his death. Although this was a revolutionary way of thinking for Galileo, he was sadly before his time.

"Listen to scientific reasoning"

I"VE BEEN SAYING THIS MY WHOLE LIFE!!!

Geez, the crazy and derranged will finally be proven right... in the eyes of die hard catholic fundamentalists.

I've had many arguments about science being the way of the future, with some mormons, they don't want to accept any other system other then what is in the bible and this promotes a stagnant belief of agnosticism towards science which is completley outrageous!

I am for once glad to see that religion is taking a step towards science, eventually (In my humble opinion) when we discover the true nature of reality, existance and conciousness, science and religion will merge.

:alien: no i haden't heard those rumors before actually..i'd assume that they would be in opposition of such beleifs even, because so many Catholics refer to extraterrestrials as demons...

BUT if they were in contact with them, my overanaliytic sense tells me, yes they were persuaded by extraterrestrials towards science, MWUAHAHAH

Too little too late in my opinion, they have alienated far too many already for them to make up for past actions.

nobody thought that the earth went around the moon and nobody really knew, so you can't blame people for something like that. that was a stupid example.
