UM-Bot Posted March 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2006 Dozens of the world’s cities, including London and New York, could be flooded by the end of the century, according to research which suggests that global warming will increase sea levels more rapidly than was previously thought. The first study to combine computer models of rising temperatures with records of the ancient climate has indicated that sea levels could rise by up to 20ft (6m) by 2100, placing millions of people at risk. Bella-Angelique Posted March 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2006 (edited) Dozens of the world’s cities, including London and New York, could be flooded by the end of the century, I wonder if by chance this has anything to do with the groups from Great Britain that have started making educational gardening trips to the states of Georgia and South Carolina here in the States. The purpose is for them to learn about the soil here and how to grow and maintain plants in this area that they are calling the Lowlands of the states. I could not see any use for any of it unless all of these groups were thinking of moving here, and I could not picture why whole groups of wealthy Brits would want to pick up and move to these two states, until I read this. Maybe they all live in areas on the coast in Britain, would be among the first to get flooded, and that is what these educational trips are about. Here is one that uses a site. link Edited March 25, 2006 by Bella-Angelique

TeraLink Posted March 25, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2006 How sad. We really must work towards this. Forget the War on Iraq. Forget the War on Terrorism. Let's save Mother Earth. TeraLink Was Here!
Robert1 Posted March 25, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 25, 2006 Interesting report. If it's true I wonder if it's too late to do anything about it or do we just suffer the consequences?
StalingradK Posted March 25, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 25, 2006 They wouldn't just let London be flooded. They'd probably do something similiar to what the Netherlands did about the bay.
Luziadus Posted March 25, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 25, 2006 Why they talk only with English/American cities about this kind of things,it seems that the world only turns around them. They talk as London was the only important place to be destroyed by Nature.
jesspy Posted March 26, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2006 I wouldnt be surprised by this yesterday ma parents went to the coast for the drive. Well anyhoo there used to be i think this hard to explain, a tide marker i guess is what we called it, on the rocks and when me and my bro were young we would always play near it and watch it slowly get covered in water as the tide came in. Anyway it was fun. And my mum told me that yesyerday when they went there the tide marker is completely under water and at high tide the waves come right up to the footpath near the beach and believe me thats a long way up. They talk as London was the only important place to be destroyed by Nature. Because they are American/British newspapers and websites that are in English? If you go to China, I'm pretty sure that the articles will mostly be about Chinese problems/events and in Mandarin. et's daddy Posted March 26, 2006 #10 Share Posted March 26, 2006 seems to me there are American/English cities that could be far worse off then London and New York parts of New Orleans were already 20' below sea level before the hurricane
Talon Posted March 26, 2006 #11 Share Posted March 26, 2006 I think in the 95 years we got left, a lot of technology will be developed which will help. Not necessary that can stop rising sea levels, but prevent major flooding. I mean, look at what we’ve accomplished since 1910. There was a map posted in the UK papers last year which had picture of Britain in a few hundred years though. England was almost completely under water, Wales was half its size, and unsurprisingly Scotland was practically untouched because we have so many mountains and hills. ... I really hope though this doesn't mean Scotland is going to be flooded by the rest of the UK's population and stop being Scottish.

Scorpius Posted March 26, 2006 #13 Share Posted March 26, 2006 (edited) That means there is still time to evacuate or prepare for the construction of levees; if it ever does come to that point. How sad. We really must work towards this. Forget the War on Iraq. Forget the War on Terrorism. Let's save Mother Earth. If only we can forget, but if you've been following the world news then you'll know that this isn't possible. Mike8272 Posted March 29, 2006 #15 Share Posted March 29, 2006 Two choices for the people of London. 1 - Provide all children and adults with swimming lessons. 2 - By then we may have the technology, most likely to as people above have said to prevent flooding of this nature. So its easy put the money spent on wars, and other wastes that the government pays out for into finding a way to prevent global warming, or finding a way to stop flooding directing the water somewere else or something....
