rashore Posted June 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 13, 2017 I've always been a big fan of the doomsday vault. I think seed vaults, germplasm systems, seed banks and exchanges, and heritage growers are all important to the security and viability of our seed stocks. I'm not too sure about the end of the world stuff.. but I do think we could manage to wipe out or lose a bloodline or few on things, and if we do, we will be happy we kept the original parentage intact. ChrLzs Posted June 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2017 Don't have time to verify this or link it, but I'm pretty sure that recently the entrance of the vault was flooded due to some unprecedentedly warm local weather! Thankfully the water did not get far enough to damage any of the samples but could have... the managers said they were shocked by the event and were now very carefully monitoring the situation... So it's not exactly as secure/well-protected as we were led to believe.
Golden Amazon Posted June 18, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Who will be picking up the seeds after a disaster. Don't they trust the new GMO seeds to regrow on the world and feed the few people left? Silly.
