Giant Alligator

Uploader comment: 12-14 Bull Aligator carrying a deer across a lake. In this second photo, the gator seems close to shore. Not something you see everyday.

Image status: EXPLAINED This set of pictures circulated the net in 2004 and shows a real alligator carrying a deer in its jaws.

This is a doubly amazing photo! The alligator's only 12 to 14 inches long and has killed the smallest deer ever seen! WOW!

I saw an alligator this big at an "alligator farm" down in Florida. It's nothing special, just really old.

Bulls tend to get larger, and Crocs and Gaters can get pretty big. But the one you want to watch out for the the caymen (sp?), smallest member of the family, and most aggressive.

This is cool but no mystery. I remember looking through a book about Crocs in Ausrailia. Man they used to be monsters. They had old BW photo of the ones hunters killed. were waist high. Looked like freaking dinosaurs. When it was discovered they were eating people teh public went out and hunted them. Killed off all the huge Crocs. They had to be an awsome sight in person.

There's no sense of perspective in this photo, so its impossible to tell how big the alligator (or crocodile) is; it could be carrying a fawn or a very small species of deer.

i live in florida, Iv'e seen a million alligators, and this could be real. Alligators can be HUGE! and the deer could be a key deer.

One cool pic! And yeah, that's one BIG aligator. And no, I don't feel sorry for the deer. That's life...and death. Natures way.
Comment icon #29 Posted by floyd63 on 1 October, 2006, 9:39
Pity steve irwins gone, he would have said "crikey" The croc would have done a death roll to drown the deer then it would have been easier to swim with. Also they like to snag their meat on underwater roots or dead wood to give it that rotting putrid taste mmmmmmmm.

oh gators can get big. The largest alligator ever recorded measured 19 feet 2 inches (5.8 meters) and was found in Louisiana.

it looks like a alligator to me not a croc. look at the snout its rounded and blunt, crocs snouts arnt like that
Comment icon #24 Posted by tremor on 14 November, 2005, 5:50
why do they think its so it big, its obviosly average sized
Comment icon #23 Posted by ilovescience2234 on 3 November, 2005, 8:34
How can you tell if its big or not Celeb? Were you standing on the banks watching it drag that full grown deer through the water? Do you think you would be able to carry a full grown deer through water? It's not an easy task.
Comment icon #22 Posted by nessie on 31 October, 2005, 6:24
ok that gator is NOT big...
Comment icon #21 Posted by crypto_chick on 30 October, 2005, 21:43
i do but its not that uncommon for a croc to get that big or possibly an alligator
Comment icon #20 Posted by zen_garden on 27 September, 2005, 6:24

I come from australia where we have the biggest and deadlyest crocodiles, this is easily a picture of a crocodile. a crocodile this size can be atleast 200yrs+ old.
Comment icon #17 Posted by elfkeeper on 2 June, 2005, 0:46
Acctually, Vega, that is very very incorrect. Alligators have only been measured, at max, to be from 6 to 15 ft long, they are not crocs, which are more aggressive and have to be to live where they do. alligators are far more docile and live in places that could not hold their diet if they got that big.
Comment icon #16 Posted by siningfordummies on 24 May, 2005, 22:55
So its a big alligator... or a small deer...
Comment icon #15 Posted by alienplayalolz on 3 April, 2005, 9:52
lol @ Mtswf4lf..Its actually Nile Crocodiles that can get up to 30ft, largest croc in the world if I'm not mistaken. THIS is what happens when crocs and gators are left alone and don't have human contact..its prolly close to 100 years old..
Comment icon #14 Posted by mtswf4lf on 26 March, 2005, 9:34
I'm just glad this photo wasn't another gargoyle pic.
Comment icon #13 Posted by recycledicecream on 21 March, 2005, 4:56

why not mikey999...
Comment icon #11 Posted by mezzezic on 6 January, 2005, 3:31
Alligators are not the ones that grow 30ft in length..its crocodiles. That is an alligator and so what if its a bit larger than normal alligators, conditions in the environment and how well it can feed can account for that.
Comment icon #10 Posted by madeyepixie on 23 December, 2004, 5:11
mikey999, my thoughts exactly.
