Uploader comment: A picture taken in my back garden in November 2004; it appears to depict some sort of form flying upwards. The reality is different, this is nothing more than a falling snowflake caught in the camera flash; the trail is caused by the flake continuing to fall while the light from the flash fades - the flash and camera shutter are not synchronized.

It appears that the photo is taken either through a patio or window. This effect could be caused by the strut getting in the way of the spherical flash beam which is then bouncing back throgh the shutter lens as a flare. GeorgeK

Sorry GeorgeK, no window/glass in the way. The deion explains the effect - this was falling snow.

I was thinking the same thing as GeorgeK. You can tell they are behind a sheet of glass..

I don't believe this is snow. Was it the only snow flake that fell? It makes no sense because there would be more snow around. EC

No, EC, you're right. He took a picture of a ghost, then made up a story about a snow flake and posted the picture here to make sure he would never get credit. It does make sense if snow is falling lightly and not settling, and only one flake caught the flash. There could easily be more flakes in that picture that just aren't close enough or in sharp enough focus to be apparent.

thanks for the explanation, people always presume things like this are moving upwards and therefore have to be unusual as they defy gravity. The truth is very simple as you explained.
