Uploader comment: Dear All, I found this in a local antiques shop and i think it is original because i did not know what it does or what is it used for. from the first look it may be a stone or wall carving tool or even the round cap can be holding something inside. please give me your ideas about what would this be and also help me translate the hyros on that. High Quality image is available, please tell me if you want me to send it to you. the picture contains shots taken from all the sides on the cylindrical stand. the dimensions of the piece is : From round bottom to the upper edge on the pyramid shape is 4.3 cm But there are much dimensions to be measured as it is not a regular shaped.

Look like they could be spinning tops, wine stoppers or board game pieces.

An Egyptian dreidel is my guess, probably in its original purpose as a spindle for spinning wool. The square shape would allow a better grip and gauging of the speed than the traditional Greek spindles. Tracings of the one-symbol glyphs on each of the sides (a signature feature of the Yiddish Dreidel) would be helpful.

I'm thinking a plumb bob or or senet/mehen piece but larger high res photos would help.

This is a long shot but it could be ancient bits to a machine. In egypt esp. there are granite, dolomite, ect monoliths that have been cut using things I would excpect to look like this. I believe they are referred to as ballchizals. I know one guy to see if my theory is correct, conntact Christopher Dunn the engineer. He will know exactly what Im talking about.

Each chizel has a different radius, and each point a different angle the markings on the side probibly refer to what degree and radius. It would be great to know what they are made of. looks like a stone of somekind, it would be VERY interesting if there were metal pieces or even diamond inlays.
