Thats one good find there Still Waters, indeed it should be added more to history book about time that the knowledge and the past that comes together maybe people well understand things about past cutlers and etc.

Chimps are tool users, so it would be unusual if they weren't. Lapiche i think they meant made tools. where it is true that chimps make fishing poles. they only use rocks as hammers.

Someone commenting on the article from the site itself had mentioned Lucy's jaws being different, more like Gorillas, and that that could be the source of the marks. Not sure about the validity of that, but until we find the tools that were used, everything is speculation at this point. It'll be cool if the Stone Age got extended about a million years further back, but I doubt it'd mean much.
