Scientists have found evidence that stone tools were used to cut meat almost 1 million years earlier than thought.
The discovery which was made in Ethiopia completely rewrites the history books, extends the Stone Age back almost 1 million years and adds a whole new chapter to the story of our past.
Scientists have discovered evidence of the use of stone tools to eat meat 3. 4 million years ago – 800,000 years earlier than previously thought. The find means that our first ancestor to use tools was not Homo "the handy man" Hablis but Australopithecus afarensis, the half ape, half human, nicknamed "Lucy" when her skeleton was found in 1976.

Chimps are tool users, so it would be unusual if they weren't. Lapiche i think they meant made tools. where it is true that chimps make fishing poles. they only use rocks as hammers.

Someone commenting on the article from the site itself had mentioned Lucy's jaws being different, more like Gorillas, and that that could be the source of the marks. Not sure about the validity of that, but until we find the tools that were used, everything is speculation at this point. It'll be cool if the Stone Age got extended about a million years further back, but I doubt it'd mean much.

yea i'm with you its really not surpriseing that we found that out. if we go strickly by learning, we can imagine that the first rock knife was an accident when someone was breaking open nuts nd split the rock instead or too.

if we go strickly by learning, we can imagine that the first rock knife was an accident when someone was breaking open nuts nd split the rock instead or too. That's most likely how it happened. Lapiche
