Women feel more pain than men

New research has suggested that women feel more pain and have less tolerance for pain than men.
Psychologist Jennifer Kelly presented the findings at an American Psychological Association meeting. "What I learned from all of my research is that you should treat women differently than men," she said. "We have to get women to see this as something they can manage instead of it having some kind of power over them."
Women experience more chronic pain and they're less tolerant of the pain than men, according to a new review of research.

Actually women feel less pain, but they are indeed less resistant to it. Only certain situations such as a child in danger shuts down there pain senses almost to zero. So if women would learn how to simulate these kinds of situations inside there mind they would be able to crush every man alive. Fortunately they are less able to manipulate themselves.

I think women have a higher tolerance. We are the ones giving birth =]. I also think women are more in tune with emotions/auras then men. But that doesn't deminish the higher tolarence for pain physically or mentally. Maybe it aids in it.

this one study has it backward or is misleading in it's title because women have a higher pain threshhold than men! (probably because they have to deal with child birth)

I'm not disagreeing, just wanting to see some evidence to the contrary. It will probably help the conversation, instead of posting what is possibly just opinion.

I can't make up my mind to make an educated opinion here, but men are brought up to assume they can tolerate the worst kinds of physical pain...and much of it is cultural when we as a society emotionally train boys and younger men to serve in combat in the armed forces. But I seen or knew women whom can take days, months or years of certain levels of physiological pain. We all are human, so we feel pain whenever it happens from a minor headache to types of arthritis to appendicitis. But gender-specific forms of pain like childbirth in women is perfectly natural, unless a prenatal complication ... [More]

Just a quick question for everyone, I'm not sure which gender feels more pain, but is it true that we experience less pain when we meditate? If being mindful is being aware of the situation, thereby, being aware that you are in pain, doesn't that heighten our response to the pain because we are more aware of it? Someone please enlighten me. Thank you!

If being mindful is being aware of the situation, thereby, being aware that you are in pain, doesn't that heighten our response to the pain because we are more aware of it? I think that by being mindful and aware of the pain, you can learn to put it in perspective so to speak. A headache, for example, is not fun but to lie around as if you are on deaths door step won't help either...unless it is one of those headbangers of a migraine. Again I think society and culture play a huge role in how we view and react to pain. We teach females to be more "in tune" yet we don't teach how to keep it in p... [More]

women tolerates pain by embracing the cause of the pain, the yin element Men does so through resolute stubbornnes or flight, the yang element The degree of pain is not relevant as there is much variation of what constitutes as "pain" to different individuals
