Actually, by the way the stairway is built, the angle and shape, the gravity pull and the movements the human body has to do to go down or up the stairs gives the impression to be pushed down or pulled down, simple geometric and gravity phenomena, nothing paranormal. Just the big cross gives the creeps, and create the illusion of being in another dimension, creates the state of mind for amateur paranormal investigator.
