This is called a Parktown Prawn we get them in South Africa, and no WE DO NOT EAT THEM

Actually it is not a Parktown Prawn, it is a New Zealand weta. It is an indigneous species and tusked weta are known to grow even larger than the beastie in this picture. They are quite harmless.

Yea! The prawns in district 9 are modeled after these things! At least I think they are! Look at the resemblance.
