I HEARD THAT IN 1980 NO ONE BELIVED IN SQUIDS BIGGER THAN 20 FEET IN LENGTH AND MAYBE A YARD ACROSS AT THE MOST BUT WITH NEWER TECH AND FURTHER EXPLORATION THE US HAS FOUND SQUIDS THAT LIVE I THINK A MILE UNDER THE SEA SURFACE 100 FEET LONG AND 10 FEET WIDE.

ledgends have to start from some thing mostly unexplained facts so yeah could be a realy big squid around some where i think the chances of finding a talking mermaid is about the same
