Looks like an Arrow Shaped Micrathena Spider. The distinctive feature is the sharp points at the rear of the abdomen. http://www.insectidentification.org/insect-deion.asp?identification=Arrow-shaped-Micrathena-Spider

I think I have those around my house. It looked sorta like that, only the head was more attached to the body. And I can't really see the colors on the one in this picture.. Was the spider red, black and white?

It looks like a crossbreed between a spider and a butterfly.
