A mysterious large cat was filmed by a doorbell camera casually strolling past a house in a quiet neighborhood.
The sighting, which took place just before 4am on Wednesday, occurred outside the house of Stephany Baez whose dogs had also started to bark and howl at the unexpected visitor.
On her Ring doorbell camera footage, a large cat can be seen walking from right to left.
"We do have outside cats, sometimes they come to our porch and we could see them on the camera, but we could see it clear," said Baez.
"Once I'd seen the camera, I was like, that tail was way too long and, it was way too big. The posture was way too big."
After the clip was posted on social media, it quickly went viral and even ended up being featured on a local TV news network amid speculation that a mountain lion might be on the loose.
These large cats are not native to New York State and seeing one in Rochester is very odd indeed.
Some speculated that the beast might have escaped from a nearby zoo around six miles away, but the Rochester Police Department later confirmed that all the zoo's animals had been accounted for.
There have been many claims of mountain lion sightings in New York State over the years, but most have turned out to be hoaxes or were based on videos recorded elsewhere.
Whether or not this new footage really does show a mountain lion in the state, however, remains unclear.
Judging by the size of the cat to the tree I'd say it wasn't a domestic cat. Probably a young Mountain Lion. If it is a domestic cat I'm not picking it up to pet it.
