Orange goo in Alaska baffles experts

A strange orange gunk that appeared in a remote Alaskan village has locals and experts alike baffled.
The substance initially washed up on shores of Kivalina at a harbour, generating a crowd of puzzled onlookers. A few days later the goo was found again, this time in rain buckets used for collecting drinking water. Samples of the substance have been sent for testing.
Villagers have never seen anything like this before, and elders have never heard any stories passed down from earlier generations about an orange-coloured substance coming into town. "This is the first for Kivalina, as far as I know," said 63-year-old Austin Swan.

If this substance appeared in their drinking water collection buckets , it must have fallen from the sky .... It's obviously 'Moon Dust' .... I wouldn't be at all surprised if the people in this village don't become more romantic .... I hope they have a maternity ward at the local hospital . Edit .. It still could be an 'Aphrodisiac”.

I remember reading some Biblical paragraph about the sea turning to blood. Well...orange isn't red, so meh.

They say it's some sort of eggs, but what doesn't make sense to me is how they managed to get on the roofs of houses, in rainwater buckets, and on the shore. How is this possible?

I can't wait to hear what animal/s laid all those eggs - by eggs do they mean Roe? They don't say so and surely that would be immediately recognisable but these are tiny little gazillions of eggs so WTF laid them?

They said it was some kind of crustacean(sp?) so maybe like Krill? Not sure if their eggs would be light enough to be carried into the atmosphere though, but maybe since each egg contains a miniscule part of oil...it somehow makes a difference. I dunno.

My guess? It's from Japan. The earth quake and tsunami creating all the "junk", floating out to sea, most likely reached Alaska through the assistance of storms, winds and ocean currents. That was my first thought. I was a bit baffeled by the report that the substance was found in the water buckets used to collect rain water. If we assume that it was carried in by ocean currents then it would also seem reasonable that any storms would have "picked up" the "goo" and rained it on the village. I don't know but do agree with others that I hope it is not radioactive or harmful.
