A new study suggested that people who are optimistic are likely to live longer lives than pessimists, with a 14 percent less chance of dying and a 30 percent less chance of dying from a heart attack.
Women who were optimistic -- those who expect good rather than bad things to happen -- were 14 percent less likely to die from any cause than pessimists and 30 percent less likely to die from heart disease after eight years of follow up in the study."

I'm very pessimistic, I don't want to be. I want to be optimistic and happy, but I havent yet figured out how to make that happen. Sigh.

I'm like that too; I think generally I am a pessimist but I somehow come into my own when things do go wrong; when that happens, I'm usually looking for the way to put it right! I think that it's basic human nature. I'm sure there are plenty of others out there who consider themselves pessimists until things go so bad, sheer willpower prevails. Sadly, not all of the time though.

I am the ultimate optimist. You could chop off all my limbs and leave me to die in a gutter, and I'd be thinking 'At least it'll make a good news story.' I can see the bright side of anything. I'm with Harriet on this... Most of the time... Don't think anyone can be hyper optimistic all the time... Still... I have a chance to live longer than some... Like I didn't know that already....
