Two new space probes are currently on their way to the Moon, NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter will spend the next few years mapping the surface while the second will go on a kamikaze decent in to the lunar surface in October.
Two robotic probes were speeding towards the Moon at 8,000mph last night on a mission that will help to earmark future human camp sites, as hearings got under way in Washington that could shake up Nasa’s plans for returning Man to the lunar surface. "

deja vu.... it will be interesting to see the results of this. I agree. I hope to be around for the Martian probes, and I really hope Congress stays out of this.

this Illegal Dumping should be stop

Illegal dumping? How is this illegal dumping? No one claimed The Moon. We're exploring it so people could live there one day. I was watching Fox News. And a reporter said that his grandmother wasn't sure if they actually landed on the moon. He said that if they found that machine that was put on there years ago. It would put the theories aside.

This is one of the most fascinating and intricate missions to date, folks. LCROSS (Lunar CRater Obsrvation and Sensing Satellite) , is a part of the Atlas V/ Centaur launch that took place on this past Thursday (18 June). It (LCROSS and it's Centaur upper stage) is going to follow a phenomenal path of large orbits designed to target precise impact of the Centaur upper stage in a specific, permanently shadowed crater at the South pole of the Moon at a specific time (in October of this year) so as to cause a plume of debris from the crater that will extend upward over the surface of the Moon, pu... I want to see the real impacts on tv! not the fake animations! This should be interesting after what they said about the bombing...It's supposedly illegal?

I'm pretty sure it was the colonization of the moon that led to it being destabilized. Always thought it was a stupid movie, the obvious answer was to pull Emma forward into time, thus creating the impetus for him to create the time machine, while preserving her life. Look at some of the craters on the moon, this thing'll be a pin prick in comparison.

The probe will be a lot more likely to shatter than the moon's surface, but it's worth it if the dust cloud can be analyzed so we can gain more knowledge of just what's up there. Check out Aldrin's take on landing on Mars. That could be a real po... [More]

I want to see the real impacts on tv! not the fake animations! In suspect you shall be rewarded. LCROSS has a visible light camera, which in fact will be employed on Tuesday, as the spacecraft swings by the Moon. You can watch this on NASA TV at around 08:20 E on Tuesday, 23 June. And of course, LCROSS will be flying right toward the impact site in October, and there is no doubt that this will be covered on NASA TV as well, with live images from LCROSS as it observes impact, and flies through the plume on its way to impact. This impact of the Centaur should be visible to astronomers on Earth, ... [More]

The probe will be a lot more likely to shatter than the moon's surface, but it's worth it if the dust cloud can be analyzed so we can gain more knowledge of just what's up there. Check out Aldrin's take on landing on Mars. That could be a real possibility in the near future. I think there's an equal and opposite reaction there...the spacecraft and the Centaur will certainly be vaporized, but the lunar surface will suffer a couple of rents. The Centaur, as I indicated will produce a heck of a hole, and send debris well up into space, which is what the sheperding craft will fly through and analy... [More]
