Physicists are looking at the possibility of modifying one of Newton's laws to remove the need for dark matter completely.
The movement of celestial bodies in the universe suggests that not all the mass is visible and thus dark matter was devised as a way to account for it, by modifying one of Newton's fundamental laws ever so slightly however the need for dark matter can actually be removed.
The second law states that a force is proportional to an object's mass and its acceleration. But since the 1980s, some physicists have eyed the law with suspicion, arguing that subtle changes to it at extremely small accelerations could explain the observed motion of stars in galaxies.
