so, with a mask, robes that cover her down to her toes, and the fact that she covers her face when someone comes close and takes her picture...who said leprosy first? kaosinc is the winner.

so, everybody seems to be saying either a woman with her hands to her face OR someone in a mask-I think both. I see arms, even lace cuffs at the wrists, with hands raised to the figure's face. some of you are saying it's for prayer, which makes sense, in this setting. to me, though, it looks like she-I will presume she, from the lace-is trying to cover her face with her hands. what little of the face is still visible looks too smooth to be skin, not to mention the fact that her eyes are just black shapes. sounds like a mask, yeah?

No, it looks like a woman with her hands on her face. It could be a double exposure. I would like to know what kind of camera they were using for this shot.

First time I saw this picture was on an Arthur C Clarkes strange world documentary. It was put through heavy testing along with other pictures featured. It was the only one that was classed as a non double exposure and not been tampered with. On another bonus it was taken by a priest in his own church which makes me think the source is more reliable than usual. The final verdict was it was a good candidate for a ghost.

Looks like the Mumler school of spirit photography. Which happens to be my favorite, because the primitive quality of the photography made some spooky-looking scenes. Photoshops don't seem to cut it - people get too confident in their skills that the audacity of some modern fakes really push the suspension of disbelief.

And I somehow managed to miss the uploader comment and the category of the image, making my previous comment really stupid.

People keep saying this is genuine. But come on its a double exposure of a guy in a silly monks outfit.

S C R E A M!!!! Okay folks, maybe real. It APPEARS it's right hand/arm is reaching upto its face...explaining distortion of face, it's a face and hand, not an olongated face.Like he's gestering 'SHHHHHHHH, quiet please'

looks to me like it is a Monk, it looks fake, but I think I'll go with real. even though it kind of bothers me how vertically squished he looks.

I just don't like this one. Like everyone else said, it's too much like the thing from Scream.

Ever notice that "ghost"pics are in black and white? That' because you can't(usually)double expose modern 35mm color film-by modern I mean after 1950, cameras. The old B/W box cameras can do it easily. Too bad so many ruin genuine interest by submitting junk.

looks too hollywoodish to me.....

I think this one is real. I remember watching a special that included this photo, and the photographer claimed that no one was in the church at the time of the picture. The special also said that the figure in the picture would be over 7ft tall. I think it's a very scary picture!!

Did it occur to anyone that this so-called ghost may have had leprosy and that he/she wore the mask because of this embarrasing disfigurement?

Believing it real, seeing hands in prayer, but a bit confused by bottom of robe. Looks like bottom of robe is flat on the floor.

Looks like the style of dress worn by an executioner from the time period of the church

That is one of the freekiest I've seen and I'm 14 and have been slapped by shadow people. what's even scarier are the hooded demons they are real.

It too has also been a fave of mine- fake or not, though it's porportions are a little off- it's too thin for its height.

If this is real (which I believe it to be), then that ghost is very tall!!! Check out the size of him! I wouldn't want to come face to face with him!

the "cloth" is a death mask. It was quite common for people, and still is, to be buried in a shroud and a face covering just like this one. Even Jesus was. (happy Easter) I saw this photo in a book once and it haunted me for many years. Truly disturbing.

Oh yea, Real ghosts run around in long robes and cloth over there face and are posed nice for pictures, i wonder if the photographer said, say cheese before this was taken? wow .

Actually I saw this picture on two seperate tv shows on the paranormal. If its the same one both shows claimed it to have somehow been faked. remember, age doesn't matter... there are "nessie" pictures from the same time period that were proven frauds. Definately a good picture, but I'm leaning towards a no on this one. sorry.

hmm long exposure in which a person wearing a long black hooded robe and a sheet with eye holes cut in it over their head stepped in making them transparent.

This pic had been in books & on tv. This 1 is real as there is no sign of fakary or trickary. Peeps may not know this but there r ways of checking this stuff.

In a TV special on spooky stuff, this was one of three photgraphs given to experts to analyze (the "kneeling ghost" in this collection was another). Funny thing was, this was the picture they though would be fake, due to the ghost's "face". but it was the only one the experts could not explain. One went so far as to say that if there was a real ghost photo, this was it.

I really don't think ghosts would look like that. Suuuure, when we die we go around wearing white masks and black robes.
