The problem is that believers have latched onto this image so strongly that when you attempt to find any real information on this image it's buried under countless search results of paranormal sites pushing forth their agenda. The thing is this, you prove to me that, that is the soul of a deceased man and just not someone in the background. I'm not making fantastical claims, why does the burden of proof lie on the skeptics?

Also, Testament, certain people are more sensative to spirits than others. and all cameras have the capability of capturing a ghost on film, some just do it better than others. Basically, if you don't believe in ghosts, why are you looking at these pictures? Because it interests you.

if anyone has noticed or not the ghost is not wearing a hat like ALL the others, and many ghost photos u only get a glimpse of the spirit.just like he prolly wasnt wearing one when he was killed? i dont know the history of this photo but it seems real to me and i dont say that to often

It's Real. I Know It Is. I Dunno How To Explaiin How I Know It Is... But I Get A Feeling When Somethings Real - Like I Sense Something. And This Made Me Cry. I've Never Had This Reaction With Any Other Photo... It Has To Be Real.

spikeesam and testament, you say ghosts don't exist but you're both registered on this site..odd, I believe this is actual evidence ghosts do exist. as deathbot 2000 mentioned, why would they mock their fellow soldier's death? I HAVE seen a ghost, lasted about 10 seconds, wasn't transparent, looked alive, until he vanished in front of my eyes. He stood maybe 2 feet away...but that's another story.

My dad has a photo like this of my grandad in north africa during ww2, With a dead comrade standing next to my grandad! We believe its his brother, who died during the allied assault on Italy! Oddly enough it won't upload on any computer!

yea i belive its real
Comment icon #61 Posted by kaosinc on 9 November, 2005, 21:26
I tend to lean to the side of...."This is Real"! Only because the face is not "glowing" as much as the 4 guys on the back row who would be approximately the same distance from the camera as Freddy! If only we had an authentic picture of Freddy himself for comparison.
Comment icon #60 Posted by catch22 on 24 October, 2005, 4:13
Leeslaughtr How the Hell do you know what the Dead Soldier was thinking? Were you there in 1919? Did you talk to the Dead soldier? I agree That I think it is real but you make yourself all high and mighty over everyone. Your opinion does not rank above everyone else.
Comment icon #59 Posted by eternal light on 25 September, 2005, 6:37
The only one that can convince me, so far! I believe it to be authentic! What possible difference could it make whether he is at the centre of the photo, or anywhere else in it Insight??? It's irrelevant; and illogical to make such a sweeping statement!
Comment icon #58 Posted by suenamilyn on 21 September, 2005, 23:00
I agree with ghostlyme, this is real, actually after looking at 1000 pictures of ghosts, this one really stood out as authentic and there are great informative comments from ghost86 and crisi, the one odd thing is both men, ghost and officer have the exact expression on their face....hummmmm does anyone agree?
Comment icon #57 Posted by hood_man on 8 September, 2005, 20:00
Was the ghost a close friend of the guy he was standing behind? And this is probably the only photo I've seen that's convincing. And the two men look nothing alike! Plus the ghost appears to be turned slightly to our right, whereas the man standing in front is looking straight ahead. And is that Freddy Kruger (sp?) on the far left?!
Comment icon #56 Posted by after_life_solja on 7 September, 2005, 4:12
i thinks its real and ghosts do exist but theres explanations for everyting most people dont know the truth but just assume like most people on ere

Ok I really like this pic and always thought it was genuine, but see the big guy with the moustache at the top left of the picture. Just above his shoulder are two dots, possibly buttons like on all the other jackets, which would suggest there are other people in the background. Have a looksee and say what you think.

spikeesam, there is pleanty of proof for them, I'm not going to go through every single peice of evidence I'v seen but how do you explain the "Faces of Belmez" story? seeing as how you know everything about everything and all.

YEAH!!!Go testament!
Comment icon #50 Posted by testament on 18 July, 2005, 3:02
Yea, if ghosts were real how come only "certain" people and cameras can see them...wouldnt they be everywhere? or do they look at certain people and say "ahh no no no, he is not worthy of seeing me in ghost form but billy can" Billy sees a ghosta nd takes a pic for everyone to see... wtf.....people are just idiots.
Comment icon #49 Posted by spikeesam on 13 July, 2005, 12:11
This is soooooooooooooo fake.Ghosts DONT exsist. There is no proof for them. If this photo was real, which i doubt, how could somone spot that ghost in that photo, without a close up. HAVE SOME COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!
Comment icon #48 Posted by ache61 on 13 July, 2005, 7:03
I totally believe this picture to be real.I've heard about before and it has been confirmed not to be a forgery
Comment icon #47 Posted by ellissar on 11 July, 2005, 12:28
One of the very few pictures that I would bet money on that it is authentic. I've seen this photo before and heard the story about the mechanic killed in an accident 2 or 3 days before the photo was taken. He was easily recognized by his friends in the squadron as Freddy, AFTER it was physically impossible for him to have appeared in the group photo.
Comment icon #46 Posted by snowcloud182 on 7 July, 2005, 10:12
i've heard of it. it's definitely real and the ghost doesn't have a hat, this means it couldn't have overlapped. it can't be somethin wrong with the photo. i looked up more info on it and it is the guy that died awhile before this picture.
Comment icon #45 Posted by theghost_and_thedarkness on 30 June, 2005, 3:38
This was another one of the photos on the "Best ghost photos" list. I always believed this one was real. . .He sort of looks like Xander off of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. . .

For once a genuine picture... possibly. He isnt wearing a hat though. All men wore hats in public in those days.?

I've always thought this photo was the real thing.
Comment icon #42 Posted by rudeylockz on 17 May, 2005, 1:50
unless the man is 9ft tall or standing on something very large id doubt it,
Comment icon #41 Posted by filoli on 16 May, 2005, 12:27
The reason the so-called spirit is not wearing a hat is because he was not part of the group having his photo taken, but looking out from the GLASS behind the men. It has been determined that the picture was in fact taken in front of a large plate glass window and a HUMAN spectator was caught "peeping". That is also why the glare on the "ghosts" face - the window reflecting what is outside.
Comment icon #40 Posted by javibarr on 15 May, 2005, 6:27
its actually looks like its the same guy in the pic....except hes not wearing a hat on one
Comment icon #39 Posted by deathbot 2000 on 9 May, 2005, 4:12
This is a pretty famous ghost picture. You've gotta look at the fact that it is an old picture, so unlikely to have been faked. Also why would the soldiers want to make light of the death of one of their mates, by mocking up a ghost picture of him. Also, notice how the ghost is the only person without a hat on? Well that's how it appears anyway. Spooky.

How is it double exposure? The ghosts face is directly behind the guy, not meshed w/it! And why only right there doubled? Rocksnikki, how do you know it's hearsay?.Goes both ways baby.Previus posts tell you where you can find proof.Liv, how do you know it's fabricated? DO you have information you can't share? Would love more info or proof on being a fake. Looks like a rare ghost capture to everyone else.Kudos to you two for going against the crowd!

there's one more little face behind the ghost's face. The pic is very old and looks like real but I'd like to know something more about that 3rd face...

I'm convinced.
Comment icon #30 Posted by crisi on 8 March, 2005, 3:06
Actually when the photo of this pic was aired, a couple of family members of the deceased spoke about the photo. I have noticed most of the people requesting "proof" are those who spend there days in photoshop trying to create ghost photos. If you research, you can find info about what show aired the info. It would include the details and testimonials. I would try the unsolved mysteries archive or the history channel.
Comment icon #29 Posted by natoman on 8 March, 2005, 0:53
It seems to me that this would be an easy one to prove or disprove. Since we know the "ghost"'s name, we should be able to varify whether or not he had died in 1919. Further, surely the decendents or relatives of this Freddy Jackson are bound to have photos of him.

So not real. It was taken on an olden day cammera, double exposer was very common and hundreds of photos would end up like this. It can be said for the others too. I think its fake.

Ive seen this picture before and apparently the guy who published this photo in 1975 (56 years after it was taken) Sir Victor Goddard, a retired R.A.F. officer (the picture is apparently his squadran) has had another encouter with the unexplained in 1936 when he claimed to have done a bit of time traveling whilst flying home one day. so if you ask me, he and this picture are frauds.

did it occur to anyone that this man (ghost) is the only one not wearing a hat so why would you want to think that he is just another guy sitting in the back because if he was why was he the only one not wearing a hat
Comment icon #20 Posted by threeplustuesday on 18 January, 2005, 15:37
The ghost thingy looks like he's telling the other guy something... "Psst. I had a stash of [insert random item here] in my mattress... See that it goes to good use."

The back story behind this photo gives it it's credibility. Not to mention the creepiness of it. I would like to know the relation between the real face and the ghostly face. Why did this apparition appear behind this particular person? A possible hoax, yes, but one without motive, other than to further the memory of the departed men in question. "Bloomyloz"'s observation of the picture being from the 4th from the left on the top allows this "Ghost" to be a person in the background. I...

Comment icon #11 Posted by rocksnikki on 15 November, 2004, 8:40
thing is, everything i've heard about this photo has been hear-say. i've yet to see actual proof that this man had died before the shot was taken. did they show a death certificate? anyway of proving the date of the photo? not trying to be an (...), but proof = good.
Comment icon #10 Posted by bloomyloz on 14 November, 2004, 20:57
To Yesturdays Dirt: I don't think you can see his body or the other part of his head because the man is infront of the 'ghost'. If you lok properly near the bottom right you can actually the shoulders. I think it's real! Does anyone know which person it is in the group photo? I think it's the 4th from the left at the top, you can sort of see the ghost behind it.
Comment icon #9 Posted by the rat monkey on 13 November, 2004, 2:43
Yeah, I had heard that people looked at it as if he was there. Not like "oh my, look its a ghost!" Even had his name at the bottem and everything. Really cool picture.

Kill the editing stuff.First off this person was delt an untimely death and his spirit is very saddened by this. This officer knew the unit was scheduled to take a photo and he didn't want to be forgotten.everybody's always talking where's the proof, death certificate look the picture was taken it is what it is and leave it at that ..explain every mystery of the world buddies.
Comment icon #7 Posted by yesterdays dirt on 8 October, 2004, 2:17
but why is only part of his face showing up, or why isnt there a body to it... and it may have been 1919 but now its 2004 and people can still edit old images.
Comment icon #6 Posted by swampswan on 3 October, 2004, 23:44
i KNOW it's real. not because of anything that was said. but because the year was 1919.

This intriguing photo, taken in 1919, was first published in 1975 by Sir Victor Goddard, a retired R.A.F. officer. The photo is a group portrait of Goddard's squadron, which had served in World War I aboard the HMS Daedalus. It is said to be the face of Freddy Jackson, an air mechanic wwho had been accidentally killed by an airplane propeller two days earlier. His funeral had taken place on the day this photograph was snapped. Members of the squadron easily recognized the face as Jackson's.
Comment icon #3 Posted by lowlyph on 27 September, 2004, 5:39
actually i have seen this pic on t.v. and the net before, the face is a match for the man it mentions and the film has been checked on numerous occasions no alterations to be found and no photographic anomolies (double exposure, etc.) to be seen, I think it is real

probably just a hallway behind where the pictures were being taken, people walking by behind them. or somebody stepped out of place.

This is a mistake. If you look closely, you see an other face behind the ghost! 2 people killed?:_D
