  Comet Impact with Jupiter
Comet Impact with Jupiter
Image credit: NASA - Hubble Space Telescope

Uploader comment: In July 1994 the fragmented comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 slammed into Jupiter. Here is a close up of one of the resulting blast clouds as it erupts from the surface. Our entire planet Earth could fit into this blast with room to spare. This event proved, once and for all, that such impacts do indeed occur.
