Homeopathy
A centuries old form of medicine that is based on diluting a substance an exponential number of times and then administering it to the patient. Homeopathics claim that homeopathic medicine is capable of curing a huge range of illnesses and conditions that in many cases cannot be treated with conventional medicine.
Controversy
Skeptics such as James Randi have done a great deal to debunk the effectiveness of homeopathic remedies. In some cases the level of dilution is so great that it is improbable that any of the original molecules of the diluted substance even exist in the solution. Some attribute positive effects of homeopathic medicine to the placebo effect in that the simple act of taking a medicine that the patient believes could cure them can have a substantial positive reaction.
