A run down of seven futuristic weapons that have passed squarely in to the realms of reality.
From rail guns to automated robots, these weapon systems were once seen only in science fiction but are now very much a reality. This article takes a look at seven of the most interesting futuristic weapons of today.
Life has been imitating art with a vengeance lately in the field of weaponry. A number of weapons and weapons systems now on active duty or in the prototype stage seem to have been ripped straight out of the overwrought imagination of a sci-fi writer.

I'm hoping the 7 - 1 numbering wasn't a ranking system. The stun round was a great invention, but it doesn't merit number one status on that list. Something like invisibility would merit it more. Granted, we haven't reached light-bending stage, but when it happens, being invisible is going to be better than stunning, because then you'll be in a little less danger and will have the time to determine friend or foe without giving yourself away. Also, the equalizer days have been gone for a while. The military is always 10 years ahead of the rest of us, they have to be if they're going to serve th... [More]

I want one of the mechanical robohorses! It will be a great replacement for my wheelchair! Will this invention mean the return of mounted cavalry?

I was reading about the robo-mules several years ago. There is a Youtube video where one is walking on a sheet of ice and a guy runs over and kicks it. The legs flail around on the ice, but it did not fall down. If they could scale it up, that would have an incredible effect against enemy combatants The only problem with the rail guns is that they are very maintenance intensive, as the barrels need to be changed out a lot. Otherwise they are much better then conventional guns. I think the US in less then a decade will be fielding lots of these little tank type robots. Eventually US landing cra... [More]

i think a box was created a while ago by australian military, its computer c0ontrolled and is able to fire 1,000,000 rounds of tank piercing bullets per minute?anybody know what i am talking about? Yep its called 'Metal storm' and uses computer controlled electrically initiated rounds housed in a collection of launch tubes. it can fire individual rounds or any combination of ripple/ staggered/groups of shots all the way up to every single round in every tube all at once - crating a wall of metal hence its name! Crazy thing is each tube has several rounds packed in it in tandem but firing the up... [More]

I think the real "weapon" of the future will be the invention of bio/cybernetic enhancements. Bio-engineering instant clotting blood, redundant organs, faster reactions, sharper senses, sub-dermal armour, thickened skeletons, bigger muscles, amping adrenaline and other stimulants to reduce/remove pain and/or heighten agressions, immunity to toxins, chamelion skin ect And cybernetic enhancements, exoseletons to improve strenth, mechaincal armour for infantry, weapon implants, brain "upgrades" making you think faster, contact lenses that provide tactical and targeting overlays on ones vision, re... Somebody's been reading the military sci-fi something hardcore. Not saying you're wrong, just that what you talked about comes straight out of John Ringo or S.M. Stirling novels. Especially sub-dermal armor. Draka time!

Especially sub-dermal armor. Draka time! Yeah a few of those ideas come from various sci-fi sources but most of them will be possible with a few decades. Our ability to manipulate genes is advanceing at a huge rate, seen the pic of the glowing mouse who had jellyfish DNA implanted at birth? If we can make a mouse glow whats to say we can engineer some of the traits i describe above? Cybernetic armour suits? Already in... [More]

Crazy thing is each tube has several rounds packed in it in tandem but firing the uppermost/outermost round doesnt set off all the others in that tube! thats the one, yeah thats some pretty crazy weaponry for sure cheers for that
