China to build space station

China has unveiled plans to build a multi-module space station within the next ten years.
The new station will weigh 60 tonnes and will consist of a core module with two laboratory units in which astronauts will carry out experiments. It will be designed to last for about 10 years with three astronauts working on board at any given time.
The project, which one Nasa adviser describes as a "potent political symbol", is the latest phase in China's rapidly developing space programme. It is less than a decade since China put a human into orbit for the first time, and three years since its first spacewalk.

It's a good thing that someone is always taking the responsibility we humans are meant to do. And I hope USA will not just become part of history in space exploration. Who ever has means to step up adn do this, we should be happy. Space exploration is a key to our survival in the future.

That's you're problem, not mine ! I don't have a problem. I'm not the one making non sequiturs and following it up with junk posting. This is a discussion forum, if you post something which is unclear, makes no sense or is just plane wrong you have to expect people to question it or criticise it. If you feel that you need to respond that's fine, but please do so in a mature manner.

Good news, go for it china We need more nations in space, perhaps this will ignite a second race? Let hope so. Anyways national programs are getting passé. It is still early to say, but I really hope that the private sector grows. If it becomes reality the new space race will be held by private companies, and not expensive governements But mean while, good luck to you china

Total and utter nonsense. The Chinese launched their first satellite in April 1970, as a result of a programme begun in the 1950s, but don't let facts get in the way eh? And finaly put a man in orbit in 2005. It,s possibly one thing to get a 5 lbs satelite in orbit and many levels further to actually have a semi-permanent manned prescence. Don't get me wrong though,I don't trust NASA or the Aerican government either but they are already in space eh? I actually read, I'm sure it was a rumor before any mods try to kill me, that the firs man put in orbit by china was being punished for poor test ... [More]

This is exciting, I don't think there is anything to fear from Chinas space program, and anyway space exploration should be a joint endeavor between the nations
