A new report from Canada's Ufology Research Institute has revealed that sightings are on the increase.
The organization documented 1,981 UFO cases in 2012, more than double the 981 cases of the previous year. Up to 40% of the sightings took place over Ontario while reports came in from every other Canadian province with the exception of Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island. While the number of reports is clearly on the rise, the institute is not jumping to a purely extraterrestrial interpretation of these statistics.
Several factors are being cited as reasons for the increase in sightings including the possibility that more classified military exercises are taking place over populated regions and that people may be more likely to mistake conventional objects in the sky for something unusual. The easy availability of camera phones and Internet access in recent years has also meant that it is easier than ever to record and distribute footage and pictures of potentially otherworldly objects.
"UFO sightings in Canada are at an all-time high, according to Canadian sky-gazers."
