Uploader comment: This is a beautiful and haunting place that feeds Bear Creek in the southeastern hills of the Ozark Mountains. Many were the soldiers, both blue and gray who watered their horses there, as well as the settlers who were my ancestors... There are legands about this creek.. The photo is poor, sorry...

What do you see or feel regarding the civil war and past?

I dont have any connection to the civil war, but I enjoy the haunting quality of this piece, and appreciate the use of light/colour which evokes that feeling. Knowing the background of a landscape piece does add emphasis and meaning to it as well. It is reminiscent of some excellent Australian bush artists, especially Fredrick McCubbin, and his piece, " A bush burial" 1890.

This is the kind of painting I particularly like. Water...trees...blue sky...and the tranquility it portrays.
