New research in to the possibilities of intelligent alien life on other worlds has revealed an estimate that there could be at least 361 intelligent civilizations in our galaxy alone, and possibly a lot more.
Intelligent civilisations are out there and there could be thousands of them, according to an Edinburgh scientist. The discovery of more than 330 planets outside our solar system in recent years has helped refine the number of life forms that are likely to exist. The current research estimates that there are at least 361 intelligent civilisations in our Galaxy and possibly as many as 38,000. "

here we talk about intelligent life and assume all intelligent life must be able to communicate with us, but we forget that ants, wasps and many other insect life forms on earth are extremely intelligent as well, but they do not use technology, and have we succeeded in communicating with an ant colony yet? ants and wasps use their body parts to measure distances, like humans use tools to measure. they build massive nests, like how we construct cities. they divide themselves into various castes, like humans divide themselves into professions. they are as intelligent as us, but our ways of commu... This could be a race to all the smart species from the universe who can prove that they're not alone first. That makes no sense to me. Can you elaborate? Worse case scenario: There are no Aliens, not even primitive life-forms, were totally alone in this universe. Some might argue that Aliens are visiting Earth, but perhaps they are travelers from other Universes then? If we take this from the sense of purpose that everything exists for a purpose, then this is quite unlogical. Then why don't just only create the Earth and the Sun. There must be a reason for a vastness in universe.

There must be a reason for a vastness in universe. Well, If we assume that there is a creator. Then maybe the creator sees beauty in such a world? I think it would be boring without stars in the night sky and a world that seems to have bounderings.

Still, looking at the vastness at the universe, it just seemed too unlogical for living beings not to exist.

Still, looking at the vastness at the universe, it just seemed too unlogical for living beings not to exist. It all depends on the theory, whether it is logical or not, but I don't know the correct one. I dont see why it would necessarily be a logical choice for a creator, whether he wants to create a universe with vastness or not. If there are infinite numbers of universes then it seems logical that there could exist such a world where we are alone. And the creation of life might be so extremely rare that it would not be so uncommon for life to exist alone, some universes would have no life a... [More]

Our place in the universe. This figure illustrates our cosmic address. The Earth is one of the nine planets in our solar systems, our solar system is one among more than 200 billion star systems in the Milky Way Galaxy; the Milky Way is one of the two largest of about 30 galaxies in the Local Group; the Local Group lies near the outskirts of the Local Supercluster; and the local Supercluster fades into the background of structure throughout the universe.

Up To 40,000 Planets Could Be Home To Aliens [/color] Published on 02-05-2009 Source: London Telegraph Researchers have calculated that up to 37,964 worlds in our galaxy are hospitable enough to be home to creatures at least as intelligent as ourselves. Astrophysicist Duncan Forgan created a computer programme that collated all the data on the 330 or so planets known to man and worked out what proportion would have conditions suitable for life. The estimate, which took into account factors such as temperature and availability of water and minerals, was then extrapolated across the Milky Way. M... [More]
