An ancient version of the bible discovered in northern Cyprus is thought to be written in Syriac, a dialect that would have been spoken by Jesus, and is believed to be 2000 years old. Experts who have studied the gold inscribed manuscript however are divided on whether this is a genuine original or a fake.
Authorities in northern Cyprus believe they have found an ancient version of the Bible written in Syriac, a dialect of the native language of Jesus. The manuscript was found in a police raid on suspected antiquity smugglers. Turkish Cypriot police testified in a court hearing they believe the manuscript could be about 2,000 years old."

I am a Syrian Orthodox Christian by birth/baptism (by belief..so far undecided...agnostic). In our churches we still use syriac as the worship language. I remember hearing from my elders that worship during their times or at the beginning of last century was quite tough physically...for example we have to say a word sounding like "Kuriyelaisaun" abnd bow our heads 3 times. In older times, when they say the word "Kuriyelaisaun", they had to get down on their knees and bow around 50 times and there were and still are no chairs in Syrian orthodox Churches....!!!

I am assuming that if this bible was really 2,000yrs old, then parts of, if not all of, the New Testament would not be there (yet). It took time for the disciples to run around and do things after Jesus was gone, and for someone to record all these things and put it al together. Since Jesus was supposed to have been here and gone around year 0, then it makes sense that this partucular bible would be incomplete compared to today's version. So I wonder what's in this bible....

I say fake too. We have all that we need already in the Bible we have now.

Or maybe it's not fake and could shed new light on some of the more original versions of the Bible. You know, before it was screwed with and changed by people who added new things. That would be cool.

The bible is nothing but a collection of different books. The Christian Bible includes the same books as the Tanakh (referred to in this context as the Old Testament), but usually in a different order, together with twenty-seven specifically Christian books collectively known as the New Testament. Those were originally written in Greek. Among some traditions, the Bible includes books that were not accepted in other traditions, often referred to as apocryphal. Eastern Orthodox Churches use all of the books that were incorporated into the Septuagint, to which they add the earliest Greek translat... [More]
