Researchers have proposed that the act of cooking could have been what gave humans an evolutionary edge over apes.
The simple, everyday act of cooking could have given humans an evolutionary edge over apes, researchers proposed at a scientific meeting this week. Preparing meals is a "signature feature" of the human diet that likely originated in the extinct species Homo erectus 1.8 million years ago. "

Its simple, cooked food is easier too eat. Meaning all the jaw muscle we had to eat raw food shrank to allow for larger brains. I saw it on a show on cavemen once, It showed the muscle capacity of "man who at raw food" vs modern humans, or (people who started cooking) the Muscle capacity of the raw meat eaters was large and their brains were smaller.

After all we do have a vestigial vermiform appendix which may have been used to digest cellulose. I would imagine the the net energy input from cooked meat is far greater than that from 'raw' cellulose. The following quote probably sums it up. "Its major importance would ... [More]
