A bat was spotted clinging on for dear life to the external fuel tank of the Space Shuttle Discovery during liftoff this week, NASA hoped the animal would fly away before the Shuttle blasted off however not even the launch seemed able to convince it to let go.
A small bat that was spotted blasting off with the space shuttle Sunday and clinging to the back side of Discovery's external fuel tank apparently held on throughout the launch. NASA hoped the bat would fly away before the spacecraft's Sunday evening liftoff, but photos from the launch now show the bat holding on for dear life throughout the fiery ride. "

Poor bat, for some reason I picture it looking desperate like the squirrel in Ice Age. Haha, I had a similar mental image. It's sad, but one can't help but smile by picturing the scenario. I mean, who would have thought a bat could hold on to the rocket's g-force?

Bats are pretty cool, maybe that one decided to commit suicide after realizing he could not fly any more. Well any way RIP cute little bat.

I saw the news item in the paper and it said that the bat would have perished quite quickly. Poor little thing
