The sun has been experiencing a quiet spell recently, however astrophysicists have been debating whether it will remain quiet and trigger a minor ice age or if it will "wake up" and reach its peak by the year 2013.
After a perplexing quiet spell, the sun appears to be stirring—but astrophysicists remain divided about what our star is going to do next. The sun was expected to hit a low in 2008 as part of its normal 11-year cycle of activity."

I heard from this guy... who lives in a shed behind the walmart.... that in 2013 the sun will align with the belt of Orion and we will all be tossed off the Earth in a gravity reversal!! (Sarcasm) Little Ice Age = Cool!

What? I've been sitting back waiting for someone with a clue to finally figure out that the Sun warms the Earth and not us and we are due for an ice age that we can not control and everyone is silent except for people that don't have a clue. And no, I don't have any degrees. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to look at the available data on the web and make a judgement call.

As WASPI was prone to say: DON'T PANIC! http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/17jun_jetstream.htm "We still don't understand exactly how jet streams trigger sunspot production," says Pesnell. "Nor do we fully understand how the jet streams themselves are generated." To solve these mysteries, and others, NASA plans to launch the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) later this year. SDO is equipped with sophisticated helioseismology sensors that will allow it to probe the solar interior better than ever before.

here we go again 2k bug anyone. As a layman I can see how you misunderstood. Had we not expended huge amounts of labor and dollars fixing and upgrading software and computer systems, Y2K would indeed have wreaked havoc on the world. The fact that it was a non-event, is a tribute that all those who spent countless hours working and upgrading their systems.

Sorry I remeber the government stating all the way to the end of 1999 dec 31 that the bug was going to end the world at midnight. I kept asking myself why a computer program cared if it was 1999 or 2000 on the date counter.
