Scientists may be missing the discovery of strange forms of life that do not rely on water or carbon metabolism, the search for life on other worlds could hinge on being able to identify and detect them.
In the search for extraterrestrial life, some scientists say we’re focusing too much on finding signs of existence as we know it, and in the process, we may be missing more strange forms of life that don’t rely on water or carbon metabolism.

Personally I believe that scientifically All and Everything is Alive. I find it ridiculous to claim the animation does not constitute Life. Of course the entire Creation of the Universe is Animated. So It Is Alive.

I remember the stern arguments with people here that swore that carbom matabolism was needed for life here and everywhere else in the universe. It seemed that these people couldn't comprehend that life may exist elsewhere that didn't live in our reality of things. LOL!!! I guess now that the facts are going mainsteam, these same people will jump ship and swim to the reality ship. We all live and learn, it's just that some of us are ahead of the curve.

Personally I believe that scientifically All and Everything is Alive... Nope, not everything is alive (especially from a scientific viewpoint). However, *everything* (aka, the Universe) is certainly significant and important.

It doesn't surprise me that these good ideas are primarily coming from outside the U.S. I've never believed that water was necessary for life to exist. Water is simply a catalyst for a complex form of energy transfer.

This is not at all weird to me what so ever. As they are now thinking of the possiblity that maybe alien life elsewhere doesn't need any water to survive. Before they ever started thinking of that possibility I was thinking of that possibility. I'm just glad that someone out there is now thinking of that possibility as well.

weird indeed, but at least they try something....better than nothing i guess.... Hi Jonathan, Please excuse the late answer, but things I want to come around to are not always easy to find the time to actually get around to Well, it might be weird and far out, but it is another avenue to pursue. Naturally. However, while it is a good theoretical exercise that is all that it currently it. We do not have the means to detect life outside of Earth unless said life actually makes contact. With respect to exoplanets we are currently just looking for some that can be determined as rocky (like our own... [More]
