Darwin theory to help find alien life

Well...if life does pattern itself solely on organic chemistry...then maybe the rules of evolution would apply...but I would need to hear the entire speech first. It seems an awfully absolute thing to say.

Atleast the article clears up my first thought when I read the title. "Oh God, don't let it be a statement that aliens are the missing link!"

Any life would necessarily evolve via natural selection of natural mutation. It's not that big a thing to figure out. Anything that reproduces will reproduce with slight inaccuracy. Those organisms that are able to reproduce better than any extant competition will become more common. Evolution is not some mysterious force, its just this fact that things that reproduce become common.
