In a controversial announcement that is likely to cause quite a stir with animal rights groups the Russian space agency is planning to send a monkey on a trip to Mars during which time it will be looked after by a robot.
A monkey may be sent to Mars, under plans unveiled by Russian scientists. Although the ape will be looked after by a robot on the mission, the decision is expected to spark controversy with animal rights groups.

This just seems like torture, to be honest. Strapped in a little pod for a year and a half? Dealing with deadly rays, which they blatantly state they dont even expect the monkey to survive. I hope this doesn't happen, and if it does I feel very, VERY sorry for that poor little monkey... I almost hope it would quickly die on the way up then have to endure a year and a half of torture.

Remember when a monkey first almost stopped NASA from blowing up the Moon but then another monkey actually helped NASA actually do it later on.... I actually once had a thread on it. Wrote a song about it even. I think there are two sides to this story. Either this monkey could die in vain going to Mars or we can all praise this monkey as a hero on it's heroic mission to help mankind and all Life on Earth. Praise the Monkey!!!!

Watch idiot groups like PETA be all over this. It's science dammit. So what if it's science? If science would require the death of thousands of unwilling human subjects, could we just say.. "it's just science"? Would you murder your entire family for one great scientific breakthrough? Think about it. All scientific break throughs must lead up to one final conclusion: All humans want is to be happy. Why do we want to learn more about the universe? Because knowing our origins would make us feel happier, and would allow us to possibly prolong our lives by learning new forms of space travel and le... [More]

I'm sorry, but a monkey is not a person. A monkey is an animal which lives off of instincts, not emotions and complex thoughts like humans do. Sending in an actual human being, capable of intelligent, unique and complex thought that could make a difference in the world one day is ten times more sick than sending an animal that's going to die--possibly painfully if in the wild--soon anyways. When that monkey is out in space, it does not know it's going to die. It does not CARE that it's going to die. The one moment it'll care when it dies is when it is just about to. That's animal instinct. So,... [More]
