Real life Frankenstein to create life by 2018

Doctor turned engineer Professor Henry Markram has announced plans to create an artificial consciousness by 2018.
In what can only be likened to Mary Shelley's classic horror tale Frankenstein, Professor Henry Markram and his team are planning to create a "creature" that will house the world's first artificial intelligence and be capable of thought and emotion.

The announcement has been met with an understandable degree of skepticism.
His words staggered the erudite audience gathered at a technology conference in Oxford last summer. Professor Henry Markram, a doctor-turned-computer engineer, announced that his team would create the world's first artificial conscious and intelligent mind by 2018.

This is a stupid idea. It's stupid in that it's dangerous. If you were to replicate a terrorists mind into a digital format then what would happen? it's retarded. It's a good thing that the human mind is restricted by matter. If the human mind was replicated in a world of electronics then a lot of chaos would be caused because of the speed things can be done. I use the word replicate because that's all they are doing replicating our human conditions in robot form. They are no more alive then the rocks on the ground.

I'm sure this will eventually happen, but 2018 is scarey soon!

How exactly will they determine whether the AI is actually conscious, or a mimic of consciousness through complex code? The only reason we know we are conscious is because... we are. We'll soon be giving rights to a robot that isn't anymore conscious than a rock!

What makes an exact replicate less alive than the original? Because it uses a ... [More]

People should have a look at the work of Dr. A Mikhailov on the subject of gray matter. Brings up a lot of interesting questions.

I think it's quite sad that people are so afraid of the idea of AI. This will only be a first attempt and I really doubt it will be put in the body of a terminator robot and "doom us all" or something similar.

I for one, welcome our upcoming Frankensteinian overlords! I think it's quite sad that people are so afraid of the idea of AI. This will only be a first attempt and I really doubt it will be put in the body of a terminator robot and "doom us all" or something similar. Yeah, I was thinking sexbot, but whatevs. lol
