Chimpanzees shoot their own movie with "chimpcam"

A new experiment at Edinburgh zoo has allowed a group of chimpanzees to film their own movie with a special camera.
The experiment was devised by a primatologist studying for her PhD in primate behaviour. As part of the research she adapted a camera for the chimps so that she could observe what the chimps were looking at as they carried it around with them.
The world's first film shot entirely by chimpanzees is to be broadcast by the BBC as part of a natural history documentary. The apes created the movie using a specially designed chimp-proof camera given to them by primatologists.

thats racist Isn't it actually racist to automatically assume that the chimp statement was racist? Why do you assume that he's referring to a specific race instead of the much more likely reference to chimp-like intelligence?

Why do you assume that he's referring to a specific race instead of the much more likely reference to chimp-like intelligence? I didn't deem his remark to be serious... chimps are surely more associated with George W. Bush these days than that ancient ethnic derogatory comparison?

Yeah, I couldn't tell if he was serious or not so I decided to take him at his word. No one is going to call you a racist though if you're comparing someone to Bush.

We've known for a long time that many BBC productions are created by "chimps". In which case chimps don't deserve the recognition they deserve for their flair for excellent nature documentaries...
