Russia have unveiled a new stealth fighter jet, the Sukhoi T-50, in a bid to modernise the country's ageing military hardware.
The new stealth jet is designed to be undetectable by radar and is planned to be put in to production in 2015.
Russia has unveiled its new stealth fighter jet, meant to boost the country's ageing arsenal of weaponry and be a rival to the US F-22 Raptor. The Sukhoi T-50, also called the PAK FA, made its maiden flight in Russia's far east. Test pilot Sergei Bogdan said it was "easy and comfortable to pilot".

The Russians are well known to build what they can, to buy what they can't build and to steal what they can't buy. Who in the West sold them the technology? There is only one place they could have stolen it from and that is the U.S. They still have the best spies and America still has the most greed!

There is only one place they could have stolen it from and that is the U.S. They still have the best spies and America still has the most greed! Maybe they did, right at the start of the jet aircraft development, when they got their hands on some of the German advanced projects (but then, so did the US and UK), and the British govt. kindly let them have a Rolls-Royce jet engine to have a look at, but they seem to have managed to cobble tog... Never underestimate the Russians. we all take the p*** out of them since the collapse of the soviet union. but forget not, the Russians are tough as nails. This fighter will have sent shivers down the spines of the top brass at NATO. it makes the Euro fighter look like a waste of money? i never read the article but i believe the Indians were part of the project and put forward quite alot of money.

I would say the Brits are a bit better than the Russians at the spy game. As for stealing technology, yes, the Soviet Union does quite allot of that. Left to their own technology they tend to live in the 60's and 70's. I've seen it first hand in how they build control panels. Most everyone used panel views and PC control while they use switches, buttons and knobs. It's a great jet but they definitely had help with it.

In the west we tend to go for 'Generational leaps' in our Airframe and engine technology - (Think Phantom to F111, Starfighter to F16 or Tornado to Typhoon, cramming as many new ideas as possible into each new aircraft type) Whereas the Russian Military Industry tends to find a design that works and develops it to the extreme Pairing old Airframes with new Engines and vice versa. This Sukhoi T50 is currently still a prototype and is just another development of the now classic Sukhoi airframe design seen in the su27 etc, with a few things that perhaps have been borrowed from other designers. Wh... [More]

Whilst on the subject of 'Nicking technology' from other countries, its a very grey area as to who nicked from who! its certainly not one way traffic and the west has actively borrowed technology where it can find it in the past and almost certainly continues to do so today! Also both sides put out their fair share of 'Dis-information' to try to catch out the opposition Agreed!

Has everyone forgot about when the Russian captured three hummers with sophisticated satellite tracking and radar equipment? That doesn’t include what else could be transferred with the hummers. Passwords and the keys to America’s secrets could be on some laptops if there were being transferred with them. During the two wars and America aiding Georgia, a lot of the operations were sloppiness and laziness has been an thorn on our America’s greatness.

The Su-27 and its fellows is hardly stone age technology; the electronics and software may not be as cutting edge as a Raptor, but the Russians know how to make some pretty decent combat aircraft. I have some idea what ideas are (or rather were) followed by Russian generals about electronics. They try to make this electronics as simple as possible to minimise the chance of malfunction or corrosion in storage; also most of this electronics is designed to withstand the electromagnetic component of a nuclear explosion, hence it often looks archaic. They probably still refuse to use PCBs and inste... [More]

Its in the news again!! Newly captured photo shows Russia's new badass shark stealth fighter A new photo captured by Artyom Anikeev shows Russia's new Sukhoi T-50 stealth fighter—the F-22 Raptor's nemesis. According to The Aviationist, its new camouflage—inspired by a typical white tip Red Sea's shark—will make it look "as a rhomboidal shaped aircraft, smaller than the actual airplane" from a distance. http://sploid.gizmodo.com/russias-new-stealth-fighter-jet-is-a-seriously-badass-1474692127
